We hiked this section on September 2, 2007.
This was our first hike after returning from Maine. It was wonderful hiking without being in constant pain. The hike started out with low humidity and temperature was in the low 80's.
It was kind of treacherous crossing PA 16 since it was a 3 lane road in which the cars were going at least 55 mph.
The water in the spring was very stagnant and there was lots of debris floating on the top of the water.
Zero was leading the hike and went right by the snake. Dirigo then saw the snake and screamed like a girl!
We meet the Inn Keeper near the bridge at Antietam Creek; he is the maintainer for the Quarry Gap shelter.
He was just returning from a work trip and wanted to check on his mushrooms.
Note, the Inn Keep helped build the 2 bridges near the creek.
He told us that a work trip group meets on the 1st Saturday of each month at Caledonia State park.
We told him about the trash at the Deer Lick Shelters and he told us to contact PATC. We meet 2 SOBO hikers named Sweet Tea and Quazi. Dirigo gave them her card in case they needed a shuttle in Harpers Ferry. We told them that we were section hikers and we had climbed Mt. Katahdin last week; they looked at us like we were crazy.
