We hiked this section on October 22, 2006.
We parked the car in a lot in a residential area and then hiked half a mile up a dirt road to reach the AT.
We came across the self-registration station for SNP. All southbound thru-hikers must register here in order to camp inside of the park.
We stopped at the Floyd Wayside shelter to take pictures. There were several tent sites, a picnic table, and a fire ring.
We came across a pair of female deer right on the trail and one doe must have thought that Zero was either a wolf or coyote. The doe proceeded to stomp her front hooves as we continued up the trail. The doe was letting us know – really letting Zero know – that she was standing her ground.
Unfortunately we lost the digital pictures for this hike.
