We hiked this section on October 8, 2012.
We dropped Knitting Bull’s car off at 22 and then took Dirigo’s truck to 55. It was 46 degrees when we started hiking. Everyone was bundled up at the beginning – as soon as we started to ascend through the cow pastures we started to peel off layers.
There was a wooden water tower past the stile on Hurd Corners Road.
We saw two deer in the pasture below us. There were low hanging clouds over the ridge across from us.
Once we entered the woods we started climbing towards the ridge. We knew that there was only one hard climb today so we took our time.
Once we reached the ridge line, there were small ups and downs through small streams. The trail eventually leveled off and the path was soft beneath our feet.
We had to walk on bog logs for quite a bit before the intersection with the green trail.
There was a train schedule posted next to the green trail.
A little after 5 miles we reached Leather Hill Road. While we were ascending we passed 2 young girls hiking south.
We had a nice long lunch at the Wiley Shelter.
There is a very old privy near the shelter but there was an “out of order” sign on the water pump.
We crossed Duell Hollow Road and saw good trail head parking. We then crossed a beautiful bridge that was surrounded by 4 white blazes.

We took our picture at the Hoyt Road sign – the NY/CT line! Hooray, another state is done!
After we crossed Hoyt Road, there was a trail box with a map of the AT in Connecticut.
