Tubbs Romp to Stomp

Tubbs Romp to Stomp benefits the Susan G. Komen for the Cure. We have looked at the Romp in NJ but it has never been on a weekend that we could do it, so we did our own Romp to Stomp. We bought shirts with our logo on it. We wanted the shirt to say “Romp the AT” but got “Romp the at.”

We headed to the snow which was in Shenandoah National Park. We got to the gate house and the park was closed due to 5ft drift south of the entrance. We decided to hike up to Skyline Drive via the Dickey Ridge Trail. The trail started out muddy and in some places, snow covered, but then it became icy so we put on our microspikes.

At one point we were carrying our snow shoes but figured out a way to attach them to our packs.

When we reached Skyline Drive we decided to go up the road to the first overlook which is the Shenandoah Valley Overlook.

On the way up it was just easier to put on our snowshoes instead of sliding all around.

A turkey flew over us and we saw a couple of deer on the road. We were almost at the overlook when a bald eagle flew over the top of us. Very beautiful!

We got to the overlook and the skies were very blue and you could see for miles.

There were some rose petals (fake) on the ground, like someone had throw them for a wedding and we picked them up and made a AT sign.

We heard some kids coming up the road and they appeared. There were about 8 and they asked us to take their picture.

We decided to go back to the truck via the road.
