Fox Gap to Delaware Water Gap (7.2 Miles)

We finished hiking the Appalachian Trail in Pennsylvania on November 14, 2010. This was our first hike with our new friend Knitting Bulll.

We met our shuttle from Edge of the Woods Outfitters at 8 am at the parking lot off of Mountain Road. It was a short ride to the Fox Gap and Knitting Bull was already there. We introduced ourselves and then started hiking.

Within minutes everyone was removing a layer of clothing as we climbed. We reached the Kirkridge shelter and took a short break. Since the trees had lost their leaves, you had a nice view of the valley from the shelter.

The leaves also covered the trail so we were careful when descending down rocky terrain.

We met 3 people in a clearing who were hawk watching. They had just gotten there so they had not seen anything yet.

We really lucked out with the weather again because it was warm and sunny with very little wind. We hadn’t see many people on the trail up to this point. But we did see a hunter sitting quietly in the woods with his hunting license on his back. We all thought that this was kind of odd.

We stopped for a long lunch at Mt. Minsi and enjoyed the beautiful view of the Delaware Water Gap.

We also met a nice hiker named Rick who knew alot about the local trails and history.
Python switched into her Vibram KSO Trek for the rest of the hike.

During the descent into the DWG we started to see a lot more people. We also came across an old foundation.

The Vibram’s felt good but Python had to be very careful to avoid stepping on the sharp edges of rocks (yes, it hurts!). At one point Knitting Bull spotted a mini-tripod hanging in a tree; obviously someone had left this behind.

Rick joined our group sometime during the descent and stayed with us until the blue-blazed side trail. He made sure to point out all the lookouts along the way.

At the end of the hike, Knitting Bull surprised us with gifts for completing the AT in PA! Wow, what an incredibly thoughtful gesture!
