We hiked this section on August 5, 2007.
Hazy, hot, and humid! The temperatures were in the high 80's to low 90's during this weekend so we broke this hike up into 2 days for Zero. What else would you expect for August in SNP?
Everyone was drenched in sweat within 10 minutes of starting the hike. Dirigo and Zero ran out of water during the hike on the first day.
We spent the night at the Loft Mountain Campground and enjoyed a cool shower after a long hot day.
The climb up High Top Mountain was tough because of the humidity and the bugs. The bugs were awful. At one point, Python put on her bug net but it got too hot so she had to remove it and deal with the bugs.
After we reached the summit of High Top Mountain, we met a lady who was backpacking to Route 33 and she told us that she ran out of water the day before because the springs were dry. Fortunately, she was able to get some water from some day hikers. She asked us if we needed any water and told us that the spring was low but did have water.
