October 10, 2012: River Road to River Road (4.7 Miles)
We had a nice long lunch at the Kent Pizza Garden because the rain was suppose to stop around 2 pm.
Dirigo and I did a key exchange hike on this flat section along the Housatonic River. The skies were clear and the sun even made a brief appearance. The river walk was nice and easy but there were not many blazes along this section.
Python hiked north and met Dirigo after the Stony Brook Group Campsite.
There was a slight sprinkle before the hike ended.
October 11, 2012: 341 to River Road (4.7 Miles)
We left Dirigo’s truck at River Road then drove Knitting Bull’s car to 341. The sun was shining but it was very windy. The trail goes over a stile and then enters a field.
The trail then climbs steeply towards Fuller Mountain.
We took a nice break at Caleb’s peak and enjoyed the warmth of the sunshine.
We then descended towards St. Johns Ledges and met a group of school kids out for a few days. The trail got very rocky after this point so it was slow going.
We then met up with other members of the school group who were preparing the ropes so the kids go repel down some very steep hills.
We drove to Backcountry Outfitters in Kent and bought drinks- we ate our lunch at their tables. We met one of the co-owners of the outfitters and she was extremely nice and very welcoming to hikers. The outfitters is also co-located with an ice cream shop and they offer free WIFI.
