We hiked this section on July 20, 2013 during the Appalachian Trail Conservancy’s 2013 Biennial Conference in Cullowhee, NC.
Dirigo was the hike leader and Python was the sweep.
All cars drove to Winding Stair Gap and then the north bound hikers took our cars to Albert Mountain. We started hiking just after 9 AM. This was a very nice hike because the climbs were gradual and the trail was soft underneath our feet due to all the recent rain. We were under tree cover for most of the hike.
After Wallace Gap we had a gentle climb for the rest of the day.
We stopped for a break at Rock Gap Shelter and talked to 2 long distance hikers and a couple who were attending the conference today. One half of the couple started playing a flute during our break – his flute was made of PVC pipe.
We all went to the fire tower at the top of Albert Mountain and enjoyed the views.
We finished hiking around 3:30 PM.
Sorry this post is short but we are tired.
