Start: Mile 180 Finish: Mile 187
All American breakfast this morning: English muffins, Canadian bacon, Eggs Benedict.
We were asked to clean our dishes and put them into their storage containers. We also put our sheets (togas) into a black bag. We cleaned out our day dry bags and put them into the big dry bags. We did not need to put our duffle bag into the big dry bag since were we not running any major rapids this morning.
It was a nice peaceful ride to the helicopter pad [video]. We tied the boats together and got a lecture from Wiley about the helicopter ride and listening to Garth (the guy in charge).
As we were approaching the helicopter pad, we saw one of the helicopters landing.

We arrived at the helicopter pad (Whitmore Wash) and had our last fire line of the trip. We just had enough time to give Joey a hug but never saw Tubbs or Amy again.
At this point, Garth was in charge [video]. We had to divide up into groups of 6 and the total weight of the group could not exceed 1,000 pounds. We had to tell Garth our name and weight – he said if “you lie, you die!” We both rounded up heavy!
Our group consisted of Scott, Dustin, Addison, Dinshaw, and us. As we boarded the helicopter, he got a chance to give Wiley a hug. Tracy rode shotgun and Panther was seated between Scott and Dustin.
The ride up the canyon was exciting and we were sad to say goodbye to the canyon [video].
Six minutes later, we arrived at the Bar 10 Ranch. We checked in for our flights and we got to take warm showers! The ranch provided lunch and we got to look around the gift shop before our flight back to Las Vegas.
Powell Report: August 29, 1869
“We start very early this morning. The river still continues swift,
but we have no serious difficulty, and at twelve o’clock emerge from
the Grand Canyon of the Colorado.”
