We hiked this section on November 3, 2007.
Calf Mountain Shelter is the first shelter in SNP if entering from the south.
We hiked with Bill the postman from Martinsburg, WV (in shorts). We also met three very nice section hikers from Reston, VA at the shelter (we also met them the day before on the trail).
Beagle Gap was a wide open field we hiked through and it was real cold, but it was beautiful.
We ascended Bear Den Mountain and at the top was a bunch of towers (radio?) and some old tractor seats planted in the ground to sit on.
