We hiked this section on November 9, 2013.
Since it is hunting season, we were all wearing some blaze orange. The previous night Linda attached patches to our dog’s blaze orange vest.

We dropped Dirigo’s truck at River Road and then Dragonfly and Linda drove us to West Cornwall Bridge Road.
It was 37 degrees when we started hiking with Cry Baby Whine Ass.

We crossed Carse Brook on a log bridge and started a gradual climb and soon we were taking off layers of clothes.

The sky was overcast and there was barely any wind on this side of the mountain. Once we started to descend we had to go slowly because the trail was covered with leaves.

We stopped for a short break at the primitive Caesar Brook Campsite. We gave Velcro 2 cups of food and Python enjoyed an Indian samosa.

We warmed up after the break by climbing up to the Pine Knob Loop Trail.

Before we crossed the dirt Old Sharon Road, we saw a sign for a detour for high water situations for Guinea Brook.

We descended to Guinea Brook and Dirigo tried to rock hop across but the rocks were very slippery and she fell and got her feet wet.

We went up stream a bit to see if we could find another crossing. After 10 minutes we all agreed to take the detour.
We had a mile long road walk and finally hooked back up with the AT on Route 4. After this the trail was quite steep – it seemed like we would never reach the top.
The descent to River Road was over a mile long but at least it was gradual.
1) I love it when the ridges can be seen through the trees!
2) Is CryBabyWhineAss or Velcro the trail name for Cullowee?
3) Poor Dirigo…sacrificing herself to the Trail Gods 😉 or did Cullowee sacrifice her TO the Trail Gods?
Cullowhee’s trail name is “Velcro.” Dirigo took one for the team this time!
