We stepped on the trail at 9:38 AM with temperatures in the mid 40's and winds gusting from all directions. We all had on safety orange because we were hiking on State Game lands.

We encountered two bow hunters taking a bathroom break right next to the AT. They were dressed in camouflage gear with orange hats. One of the hunters asked us if we saw anything. We were not sure if he was asking if we saw any wildlife or if we saw him taking a potty break.
Our streak of seeing no wildlife on the AT in PA continues.
The rocks on the trail were small and covered with dry leaves. The small rocks caused us to roll our ankles several times.
We heard several gunshots during the hike down in the valley but fortunately no shots were close to us. We also passed two campsites and a sign to the stempa spring (0.6 miles from the AT).
We took a short break at the intersection with Delphs trail and had a snack. Once the wind died down, it was actually quite warm because the sun was shining. The hike back to Smith Gap seemed to just fly by.
